About Us

The Department of Statistics was established in 1992 within the Faculty of Science at Fırat University and started accepting students in 2005. Our department, which started education and training after a seven-year establishment phase, continues its education with five departments and nine academic staff today. The language of education of our department is Turkish and the department continues to accept students for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs.

The main basic competencies that our undergraduate program will provide to our students are the successful application of statistical methods and the ability to produce statistical solutions in the required areas. Our department's educational objectives and program outcomes have been clearly defined and the curriculum prepared in this direction has been put into practice. The courses in the curriculum support the achievement of program outcomes as well as the acquisition of basic competencies. Some of the courses in the curriculum consist of compulsory courses and some of them are elective courses. In addition to the compulsory courses, our students develop their knowledge and skills in the field of statistics with the help of courses that support education. In this way, our department tries to provide our students with education at a level that will compete with other universities in the national and international arena by using all the possibilities of modern education.

The diversity of the field of work of an individual who graduates from the statistics program is determined primarily by their professional qualifications and the level of reaching the program outputs of the department they are studying. The richer, more accessible, and measurable the program outputs of the department are, the richer the field of work of the graduate will be. When all of our department's program outputs are considered, our graduates will have the opportunity to work primarily as statisticians, data science specialists, software developers, managers and economists. Of course, our students should choose one of these fields and support their education with field-specific, elective courses included in the curriculum.
