The Statistics Department Student Communications Coordinator carried out a series of activities to facilitate the adaptation of first-year students. As part of this activity, a shared text document was shared via WhatsApp to enhance students' integration within the department.
Dear New Students,
We hope that the next four years of statistics education will be a truly exciting and unforgettable experience. You have many reasons to make this happen. You are joining one of the most successful statistics departments in our country, a time when statistics, in all its diversity, is increasingly appreciated and becomes meaningful by integrating it into research.
As your studies progress, the content and diversity of modern statistics will become more apparent to you. Our department operates primarily within a research university. One of the advantages of studying in such a department is the increasing variety of options available to you as your education progresses.
You may feel a little uncertain and a little excited in the first few days of joining our department. However, you will quickly adapt to the pace and rhythm of our department. Full participation in classes is crucial for your integration into the department.
From the outset, you'll encounter a curriculum designed for you in your department, one that's vastly different from what you envisioned. Earning a statistics degree at Fırat University can be challenging. However, remember that we have a team of experienced staff to help you achieve this.
This article will help you adapt to your education and help you understand the benefits of your curriculum. Our instructors will also provide you with more detailed information about the support provided within the curriculum. This information will help you read the curriculum accurately and better understand the learning outcomes of the courses you take each semester.
Nowadays, professional qualifications alone are no longer sufficient for the professional life you'll enter after your education. This is the case in statistics, as well as in many other professions. Therefore, we offer a variety of elective course groups to prepare you for the working world. You can easily access this information on the curriculum on our department's website.
The elective courses in the curriculum, starting in the third semester, are offered in three main categories. The first category consists of YMH-coded, software-focused courses that lead you to become a "Data Science Specialist." If you choose this elective group to build on the professional qualifications you'll acquire in the required and in-field elective courses, you can continue your career as a well-equipped data science specialist. The expert staff of our university and department are here to support you in this endeavor.
Our second elective course category offers an option that prepares you for a career as a manager. The courses in this category are MIS-coded. This option offers you the opportunity to become a CIO, chief information officer, or CIO. This option, combined with your statistics qualifications, will prepare you for the role of a CIO in national and even international markets.
Our third elective course category is designed to equip you with the qualifications of a sought-after expert in commercial transactions. The courses in this category are IKT-coded.
The required courses in our curriculum are tailored to professional qualifications. Unlike other statistics departments, the curriculum does not have a rigorous curriculum but rather provides an introduction to professional qualifications. Our students have the opportunity to supplement a challenging course by taking in-field elective courses. This gives you the opportunity to decide which area of your career you want to focus your professional skills on.
The process we've described will, in a sense, make it easier for you to adapt university statistics to working life. The most important thing to remember is that this system will be implemented within your personality. Therefore, it's ideal for you to blend what the education system strives to teach you with your own personal characteristics. Making the next eight semesters we spend together enjoyable and productive for you should be our and your most important shared responsibility. Feel lucky to have joined us and ensure your education is enjoyable. We wholeheartedly wish all the new members of our family success.
