The future of statistics departments in the age of artificial intelligence will be discussed at the “Joint Reform Workshop in Statistics Education,” to be held at Fırat University on January 30-31, 2026.

The “Joint Reform Workshop in Statistics Education,” aiming to restructure statistics education in line with changing scientific and technological dynamics, will be held at the Prof. Dr. Mustafa Temizer Conference Hall of Fırat University on January 30-31, 2026. The workshop aims to create a common vision for the position of statistics science and the future of statistics departments in the age of artificial intelligence.

The workshop is chaired by Prof. Dr. Sinan Çalık, and coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Pamukçu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurhan Halisdemir. The organizing committee includes faculty members and researchers from the Statistics Department of Fırat University.

Two-Day Intensive Academic Program

On the first day of the workshop, “Artificial Intelligence Following the opening speech titled "The Importance of Statistics in the Age of Intelligence and the Future of Statistics Departments," panel sessions will be held. Later in the day, participants will exchange views in four parallel working groups on topics such as the current state of statistics education, curriculum structures, and the integration of artificial intelligence and data science.

The second day will continue with presentations of reports from the working groups, an evaluation panel, and a decision panel. The workshop will conclude with the sharing of the outputs and the determination of a common roadmap for the future.

Emphasis on Collaborative Thinking and Sustainable Reform

The workshop aims to identify common problems in statistics departments in Turkey, share best practices, and develop concrete proposals for sustainably strengthening the discipline in the context of artificial intelligence. The event is expected to provide an academic foundation for long-term reform processes in the field of statistics education.

The opening speech and panel sessions of the workshop will be open to all academic attendees.
